Green Key
Pandox’s main environmental impact comes from the properties – primarily from heating and electricity and the use of building materials. Therefore Pandox is focusing on various activities to reduce energy and water consumption and to increase resource efficiency in operation, production and distribution.
Another objective is that the hotel operations are also to be Green Key certified by a third party within two years of Pandox taking over the operations, unless other relevant environmental certification already exists. Green Key certification is a leading standard for environmental responsibility and sustainable operations in the tourism industry. Certification ensures that environmental measures are implemented and result in reduced energy and water consumption, renewable energy use, waste sorting at source and recycling, as well as the purchase of eco-labelled cleaning products and organic food. The hotels are also to focus on social responsibility as well as communication and cooperation with guests and other stakeholders. At the end of 2024 all 20 (16) hotels were Green Key certified.
Green Key – an international eco-label for establishments in the hospitality and tourism sector
Green Key is a leading international eco-label for establishments in the hospitality and tourism industry, with over 7,500 certified sites in more than 80 countries worldwide. Green Key is managed globally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and is supported by organizations such as the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The Green Key certification is an easy-to-use tool for tourism establishments that want to improve their sustainability efforts and reduce their environmental impact. Green Key helps hotels, hostels, campsites, and conference venues enhance and communicate their sustainability performance and, in many cases, lower operational costs. You can find all Green Key certified establishments in Sweden here.
How does it work?
An accommodation or conference facility certified by Green Key actively works to minimize its environmental footprint through clear measures such as reducing energy and water consumption, using renewable electricity, implementing waste sorting and recycling, purchasing eco-labeled cleaning products and organic food. In addition, facilities are expected to take social responsibility and engage in communication and collaboration with guests and other stakeholders. A Green Key certification signals to guests that the establishment is making a real difference for the environment.
