From seasonal hotel to year-round destination

August 24, 2026

There is something timeless about Kolmården.

For decades, people have travelled here to experience wildlife, nature and adventure. What for many began as a day trip to Sweden’s most visited wildlife park has gradually evolved into a place where visitors choose to stay longer and experience the surroundings at a slower pace.

At the heart of this development is Vildmarkshotellet.

Overlooking Bråviken and surrounded by the forests of Kolmården, the hotel occupies a unique position in one of Sweden’s most established visitor destinations. Here, nature experiences, relaxation and meetings come together in a setting that changes with the seasons.

From family hotel to resort destination

Since Pandox acquired Vildmarkshotellet in 2010, the hotel has evolved in line with changing guest expectations for more complete experiences. An extensive renovation completed in 2019 modernised the hotel rooms, public areas and conference facilities. In 2025, the redevelopment of the hotel’s spa and pool area was also completed. Together, these investments have created a more cohesive hotel experience, with the Scandinavian wilderness serving as a common theme throughout the property.

“For us at Vildmarkshotellet, investment and development are essential to our future. They create the conditions for us to continue enhancing the guest experience and strengthen Vildmarkshotellet’s position as an attractive year-round destination. At the same time, it is the people, the hospitality and the content of the experience that bring these investments to life”, says Jenny Erikson, COO at Vildmarkshotellet.

More reasons to return

For attractive destinations, long-term development is often about creating new reasons to visit.

Families with children remain an important target group for Vildmarkshotellet, but today the hotel attracts a broader mix of guests than before. Conference groups, couples and families with older children have become an increasingly important part of demand.

The combination of hotel accommodation, spa, restaurants, conference facilities and proximity to Kolmården creates an offering that extends well beyond the summer season. This has strengthened the hotel’s position as a year-round destination.

Developing destinations over time

Strong destinations are often the result of long-term efforts in which the experience is gradually developed, the target audience broadened and the offering adapted to new generations of guests.

The development of Vildmarkshotellet is an example of exactly this. Through investments in hotel rooms, public areas, conference facilities and the spa, the hotel has evolved into a more complete resort destination, offering more reasons to visit throughout the year.

“It is the interaction between the property, the destination and our dedicated employees that creates the overall experience we want every guest to feel. As COO of Vildmarkshotellet, I am proud of the journey we have made together with Pandox and look forward with great confidence to the next chapter in Vildmarkshotellet’s development", Jenny Eriksson concludes.
